Although we have already taken the OAA, we really like this rap. It helped us get ready for the test. Both of my language arts classes collaborated to create this original rap. We started in March during "Music in Our Schools Month" and finished in early April, which is "Poetry Month". Every student gave some input. This is the result of our efforts. Enjoy!
The OAA Rap: 2011
Hey, hey, hey, no time to play. Got to be ready for the OAA!
At first it seemed a little bit scary, and then we learned vocabulary. We’ve got skills and strategies. And we’ll use every one of these: Predict! Visualize! Clarify! Make Connections and
Summarize!
Bloom’s Taxonomy has helped us out, so what is all the fuss about? Get excited, c’mon, get hyped! Relax and let your brain take flight.

Underline details, circle key words, make an educated guess, make your test book a mess! Mark your test BOOK up. But write your answers on your SHEET. Watch your spelling, write neatly and you can’t be beat.
Don’t know the answer? Use imagination, or you can use the process of elimination. If you get confused, don’t get the blues—just remember to use those context clues. Don’t ignore the pictures, the tables or the graphs. They can help you pass the tests in reading and in math.

Don’t get upset; no need to worry, support your answers with words from the story. For 4-point answers, restate the question, go back to the text and get the information. Answer every question. Don’t leave any blanks. Remember that your mind is as strong as a tank!

Read the questions and directions and all the answer choices. And try to remember your teachers’ voices. Saying, “You’re gonna pass the OAA, 'cause you are all winners every single day!”

Take your time, don’t you dare rush. Be quiet and concentrate--hush, hush, hush! Reread your answers and you’ll be fine. The best thing to do is keep a calm mind.
Stay focused, don’t worry ‘bout anything else. Be cool and concentrate only on yourself. If things get tough and you start to feel down, take a deep breath--don’t clown, don’t frown.
Persevere and don’t quit until you’re done. Before you know it you’ll be out having fun. When you finish check your answer sheet for empty spaces. Fill them all in, cover all your bases.

We’ve been working real hard, we’re gonna do our best. That’s how we know we’ll pass that test. We’re not that stressed ‘cause we’ve been blessed--our teachers have prepared us for our quest. We’ve listened in class, done our homework all the way. It’s time to show our smarts on the OAA!
Now go to bed early, get some sleep at night, so you’ll wake up fresh and ready and feeling alright. Eat a healthy breakfast that’s good for you. I’m telling you now, this stuff is all true.
When you finish taking the OAA test, the stress that you felt will be off your chest. Then you can relax and dream of middle school--another chapter of your life that’ll be so cool!
